The canton of Neuchâtel is expecting a surplus of CHF 29.9 million for 2025. This result should make it possible to pay off one percent of the government deficit and at the same time secure the self-financing of a comprehensive investment package.

The investments planned for 2025 amount to almost CHF 147 million. "This is a crucial period in which investment expenditure must be maintained at a high level," explained the State Councillor to the media on Wednesday. The investments are necessary in order to meet the numerous challenges of modernizing and renovating the canton's infrastructure.

Despite certain signs of an economic slowdown, the canton is expecting high tax revenues of CHF 1.28 billion. This should make it possible to cushion the considerable cost increases, particularly in the healthcare and social services sectors.

The State Council is planning a second temporary reduction of one percent in the income tax rate for natural persons. The financial impact of this reduction has already been taken into account in the 2025 budget.
