The German conductor Justus Frantz (80) wants to say goodbye to his audience with a tour with the Philharmonie der Nationen. "I have decided to say goodbye to my family, friends and fans with this tour," Frantz told the Bild newspaper.
The Philharmonie der Nationen will continue to exist and will work with other conductors in the coming years. In November and December, Frantz plans to tour 24 cities in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
The reason for his departure is his failing health. "Unfortunately, the doctors recently discovered a brain tumor in me, for which further examinations are required. I also need urgent surgery on my aorta, which will be a major operation," said Frantz, who published his autobiography in May.
Despite the devastating diagnosis, the conductor is looking ahead with confidence. "The unexpected circumstances concerning my health make my future uncertain, and it is questionable whether I will survive the next year. But music gives me hope and strength to deal with these challenges."
