The Swiss Science Council has set its thematic priorities for the 2024 to 2027 work program. These include issues relating to artificial intelligence (AI), universities of applied sciences, climate change and research libraries.

AI is one of the major current challenges facing Swiss education, research and innovation, the Swiss Science Council (SWR) announced on Thursday. The Council wants to focus in particular on the areas of AI and health as well as infrastructure for AI. Another pressing issue is climate change. Scientific findings should be better integrated into the political decision-making process in Switzerland.

The Council is also focusing on the role of universities of applied sciences, which make an important contribution to technology transfer and applied research. Finally, the SWR also wants to shed light on less visible institutions such as research libraries. These will become "data hubs that are central to the communication, storage and processing of research-relevant data.

The SWR is the Federal Council's advisory body in matters of education, research and innovation policy.
