Wages in Switzerland rose by an average of 2.1% in 2024. This is according to the survey on collective wage agreements. However, when inflation is taken into account, the increase is significantly lower.

The survey published on Tuesday by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) states that inflation plays a major role. If the corresponding forecasts are taken into account, real wages are likely to rise by 0.9%.

Of the increases, 0.4 percent were individual adjustments and 1.7 percent were collective adjustments. The most important collective employment contracts with at least 1,500 employees were examined.

The minimum wage is also rising

Wages rose most strongly in the transportation and warehousing sector (up 2.7%). This was followed by trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles, education and teaching as well as information and communication. They rose least strongly in the miscellaneous services sector.

Minimum wages have also risen. They increased by 2 percent overall. This is significantly more than in the past four years. In 2020, for example, they rose by 0.7 percent. According to the FSO, almost 1.8 million employees are subject to a collective employment contract in which minimum wages have been agreed.
