In Brienz GR, the deadline for the evacuation of the entire village ended at 1 pm on Sunday. Phase red now applies. This means that access is prohibited until further notice.
Christian Gartmann, spokesman for the municipality of Albula, told the Keystone-SDA news agency after midday that the final inspection is currently taking place. Once this has been completed, the municipality will provide official information on the conclusion of the evacuation.
Representatives from the fire department, police, municipal authorities and the cantonal military and civil defense office are taking part in the patrol. They must ensure that all 80 or so residents of Brienz GR have left the village and that no one is left in the danger zone.
The two access roads to the village are blocked. It may not be possible to return to the village until spring 2025, provided that the 1.2 million cubic meters of rock have already thundered down into the valley by then.
