Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin took part in a National Exchange Week event on Tuesday. At the Progr Bern, he spoke to around 70 pupils from different language regions of Switzerland.

The young people that the Federal Councillor responsible for the Department of Education met on Tuesday were from school classes in Bern, Ticino, Vaud and Graubünden, according to a press release from the Movieta organization. Guy Parmelin spoke with them at a panel discussion about the leap across language barriers. Bernese government councillor Christine Häsler and other guests from the education sector were also present.

A total of 3500 pupils from 175 classes and four language regions take part in the national exchange week. During this week, return visits and events take place where they get to practise foreign languages.

The national exchange week is supported by SRG as a media partner. According to a press release from SRG, presenters from SRF, RTS, RSI and RTR will swap jobs and present the formats on television and radio in the other language region. For example, RTS's "Le 19h30" will be produced in German for Swiss-German audiences on November 22, while SRF will produce "Tagesschau" in French for audiences in French-speaking Switzerland.

The national exchange week is taking place for the second time and runs until Friday. It was first organized in 2023 by Movieta in collaboration with the cantons.
