The Centre Party has regained its second seat in the Jura government. Its candidate Stéphane Theurillat won the by-election on Sunday, relegating the Green Party candidate Pauline Godat to second place, as announced by the canton's state chancellery.

Theurillat received 10,211 votes in the election to replace the retiring FDP councillor Jacques Gerber, putting him just 85 votes above the absolute majority.

Pauline Godat came in second place with 7718 votes. With 2321 votes, Pascal Prince, the candidate of the HelvEthica movement, came a distant second. The voter turnout was 35.4 percent.

In future, the government of the Canton of Jura will include two members each from the SP and the Center Party, as well as a representative of the Christian Social Party.

Jacques Gerber (FDP), Jura's Director of Health and Economic Affairs, announced his resignation at the beginning of September. In future, he will head the Ukraine program at the federal government. The FDP decided not to defend its only seat in the government.
