The blue carpet has been rolled out for the European Film Awards at the Culture and Convention Center Lucerne (KKL). For the first time, Europe's top film awards will be presented in Switzerland. The gala is this Saturday evening.

The European Film Awards are regarded as the European equivalent of the US Oscars - the dress code here is also "Black Tie".

The Spaniard Pedro Almodóvar is nominated for Best Director and Best Screenwriter. His film "The Room Next Door" is nominated in the "Best Film" category along with 14 others. He will be joined on the carpet on Saturday evening by stars such as director Wim Wenders, actress Juliette Binoche and actor Ralph Fiennes.

Swiss filmmakers are also hoping to win an award: the animated film "Sauvages" by Claude Barras and the short film "2720" by Basil da Cunha.

The award ceremony can be followed on the SRF livestream.
