The Swiss government is committed to providing reliable high-speed broadband infrastructure throughout the country, including in rural and disadvantaged areas. To achieve this, the government is proposing a state-funded program to support the expansion of fast internet access. The focus of the strategy is on the expansion of fibre networks into homes, but other technologies such as mobile networks may also be supported. Private investment is expected to be the primary source of funding, but the government may also seek additional contributions from cantons and municipalities. The Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (UVEK) has been tasked with developing options for the strategy and presenting them to the government by the end of the year.
