An American Pitbull Terrier has seriously injured a 73-year-old cyclist in Flawil. The dog attacked the woman and bit off part of her ear, according to a statement from the cantonal police. The woman had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance, where she was operated on. The canton of St. Gallen's veterinary office has confiscated the six-year-old dog. According to the police, a criminal investigation has been opened. According to current knowledge, the animal had broken free from its 33-year-old companion. According to her statements, the dog was on a leash and wearing a muzzle, from which it apparently freed itself. After that, it ran towards two cyclists and attacked the 73-year-old woman. In parallel to the criminal investigation, a behaviour check of the Pitbull Terrier will be carried out. Measures against the dog or its owner may be imposed as a result.
