On August 1st, Swiss farmers invited guests to their traditional 1st August brunch. According to the Swiss Farmers' Association (SBV), two thirds of the events were booked. Despite the bad weather, few people were deterred. As usual, members of the government also took part, including Justice Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider at the Alpkäserei Lipplisbüel in Muotathal SZ and Economic and Research Minister Guy Parmelin at the Trychlerklub Spitzeflueh in Schwarzsee FR. On Monday, Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis joined 180 readers of the Swiss Illustrated and L'Illustré on a hike through the Gotthard region, stopping at the Alp Sorescia for a Tessiner snack. The farmers served homemade dishes such as jams, butter rolls, muesli with fresh fruit, and fried eggs with bacon. The brunch is also an opportunity for the SBV to bring the public closer to agriculture. The event has been taking place for over 30 years.
