EDA Intervenes with US Authorities Over Allegations Against Justice

The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (EDA) has intervened at a high level with US authorities following allegations of corruption and questioning the functionality of the Swiss justice system by the US Helsinki Commission. The EDA has stated that Switzerland is a functioning rule of law state in which the separation of powers is respected. The Helsinki Commission had requested sanctions against former Swiss Attorney General Michael Lauber and two other former Swiss officials for allegedly facilitating the return of funds to Russian individuals subject to US sanctions. The EDA has communicated its disagreement with the Helsinki Commission's statements to the US authorities.nnnn
