In Yverdon-les-Bains VD, tensions have been escalating between the authorities and a group of travelling people from France. On Thursday, the city cut off the water supply to the site where around 33 caravans are located without permission. On Friday morning, concrete blocks were placed to prevent access to the area. Christian Weiler, the municipal councillor responsible for public security in Yverdon, reported a "very high level of nervousness" on the site. After an initial illegal occupation at the end of July, the city had allowed the French community to stay on the municipal land of Vuagères near the rugby pitch until Wednesday, 2 August. However, the caravans did not leave the site by the specified date. In a statement released on Friday morning, the municipality expressed regret that this agreement had not been respected and referred the case to the judiciary. They hope for a swift resolution that ends with the withdrawal of the occupiers.nnnn
