The Basel Criminal Court sentenced a former cashier of the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen BS on Friday to a prison sentence of 3 years and seven months for multiple embezzlement among other charges. The cashier had been accused of misappropriating a total of CHF 1.2 million from the foundation over a period of several years. She had used the money to pay for personal expenses such as vacations, luxury items, and gambling. The court found her guilty of embezzlement, fraud, and money laundering. The cashier had worked at the Fondation Beyeler for over 10 years and had been entrusted with the responsibility of managing the foundation’s finances. During her tenure, she had misappropriated the funds by transferring them to her own accounts and using them for her own personal gain. The court found that she had acted with intent and had taken advantage of her position of trust. The court also ordered the cashier to pay back the full amount of CHF 1.2 million to the foundation, as well as a fine of CHF 10,000. The cashier has been in custody since her arrest in 2019 and will now serve her prison sentence.nnnn
