At the weekend, a high-level international conference was held in Saudi Arabia to discuss the Russian attack on Ukraine. Around forty states were invited to the two-day conference in the coastal city of Jeddah, but Switzerland was not among them. The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (EDA) stated that the meeting was a continuation of the conference in Copenhagen, which Switzerland had also not attended. The conference was attended by Ukraine, its Western allies, and developing and emerging countries from the so-called Global South, including representatives from the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Germany, Chile, Indonesia, Egypt and Turkey. Russia was not present. The aim of the conference was to find a "political and diplomatic way" to end the war against Ukraine, according to a statement from the Saudi news agency SPA. The Swiss government welcomed the conference and is monitoring its progress, staying in contact with Ukrainian authorities to assess the results. The core of the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj's peace formula is the demand for a withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine.nnnn
