Swiss researchers have developed a new battery with high performance, fast charging capabilities and safety. The battery is expensive to manufacture, so it will be used in applications where high storage capacity, performance and safety are essential and cost is secondary, such as aircraft, drones and satellites. The battery is a thin-film solid-state battery with high storage capacity, which can be charged in one minute and has energy storage comparable to lithium-ion batteries. The secret behind the battery is the stacking of two thin-film cells with a special vacuum coating process, which creates a stable connection between the cells that is 100 times thinner than a human hair. In the next step, the researchers plan to stack up to ten of these cells.nnnnnn
