Retour au fil d'actualité

Since the end of the pandemic, mobile phone thefts in Switzerland have generally increased significantly. However, the frequency of incidents varies from canton to canton and depends on the season. According to Axa Switzerland, reported thefts of mobile phones in 2022 increased by 40% compared to the previous year, and in the first half of 2023 they increased by 20% compared to the previous period. This has returned the level to pre-pandemic levels. Crowds of people at events and open borders are said to facilitate the thefts. Most pickpockets strike mainly in the summer, with almost a quarter of all reported mobile phone thefts occurring in the two months of July and August. There are also differences between the cantons: for example, Geneva reported around 5 times more mobile phone theft reports than the Swiss average and 11 times more than from Ticino. Smartphones are also stolen from insured people from the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Bern at an above-average rate.nnnnnn
