Consumer sentiment in Switzerland in May 2024 remains steady at -38 points, slightly higher than May 2023, according to Seco.
Consumer sentiment in Switzerland remained unchanged in May 2024 compared to the previous month. The monthly consumer sentiment index compiled by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) remained at -38 points.
Compared to May 2023, the consumer sentiment index is around 2 points higher, as reported by Seco on Monday. The sub-indices for past financial situation, expected financial situation, and time for major purchases are above the levels of a year ago. The expected economic development sub-index has hardly changed.
The index reached its lowest point to date last October, slipping to just under -53 points. The last significant increase was at the beginning of 2022.
Since January 2024, the consumer sentiment index has been based on monthly surveys conducted by Seco instead of the previous quarterly surveys. These are conducted continuously using online questionnaires, with 2854 people participating last month.
