The Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) seized 1.5 kilograms of pure cocaine in Boncourt, Jura, on August 1. The customs officers found the drugs in a car that was registered in Switzerland. The driver was a 43-year-old man from the Dominican Republic, as the public prosecutor's office announced on Friday.

The Jura cantonal police established that the cocaine came from Barcelona and was to be delivered to German-speaking Switzerland. Before the drugs were confiscated, specialists took a close look at the goods. The BAZG then handed the driver over to the Jura police.

The suspected drug courier has been living in Switzerland for several years. He has been remanded in custody. He faces a prison sentence of several years and a ban from the country, the press release adds.
