Vacation and weekend traffic caused a traffic jam in front of the north portal of the Gotthard road tunnel on Saturday morning. Shortly after eight o'clock in the morning, the queue between Erstfeld and Göschenen in the canton of Uri reached a length of up to ten kilometers.

According to the TCS traffic service on X, the waiting time was around one hour and 40 minutes. According to TCS, a broken-down vehicle was blocking the tunnel.

There were already traffic jams at both portals of the Gotthard tunnel on Friday. Towards evening, the length of the traffic jams on both sides of the Gotthard decreased again.

Switzerland's second important north-south link, the San Bernardino route, was reopened to traffic on Friday morning, albeit with limited capacity. The national road had been closed for two weeks following storms in the southern Graubünden valley of Misox.
