The Austrian Leonhard Baumgartner won the "Eurovision Young Musicians" classical music competition in the Norwegian cultural capital of Bodø on Saturday evening. This was announced by the organizers. A Swiss musician also competed for victory in the final show on Saturday evening.

However, the Aargau euphonium player Valerian Alfaré did not make it into one of the top three places. Behind Baumgartner, Hugo Svedberg from Sweden and Fabian Johannes Egger from Germany took second and third place.

The Eurovision Young Musicians (EYM) is an international classical music competition for young musicians between the ages of 12 and 21. It is organized by the European Broadcasting Union. Eleven European broadcasters took part in the 2024 edition in Bodø, Norway. Among them was Swiss television SRF, as it writes on its website. The 20-year-old Swiss candidate was selected by a jury of experts in the Swiss pre-selection.

The winner Baumgartner is a 17-year-old violinist who impressed the jury with Henri Vieuxtemps' Violin Concerto No. 5 in A minor (1st movement). From 2019 he studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with Regina Brandstätter and from 2022 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Dora Schwarzberg. His previous awards include second prize at Il Piccolo Violino Magico 2021, first prize at the Zhuhai International Mozart Competition 2022 and the Discovery Award of the International Classical Music Awards 2023. He is London Young Musician of the Year 2023 in the violin category and a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy Liechtenstein.
