On Saturday evening, a person died in a traffic accident in Hochdorf LU. After an overtaking manoeuvre, a car had landed on the railway track, where it collided with a train. The accident occurred shortly after 5:40 pm, according to a statement from the Lucerne police on Sunday. According to this, a car collided with another vehicle for still unclear reasons during an overtaking manoeuvre, got onto the railway track and additionally collided with an oncoming train. A 54-year-old man was so seriously injured in this accident that he died on the spot. According to initial findings, none of the approximately 50 passengers in the train were injured. A rescue helicopter, the rescue service 144 and the fire brigades of Hochdorf and Hitzkirch were also on duty. The railway line and the main road between Hochdorf and Gelfingen were interrupted for several hours. The traffic routes are now unrestrictedly passable again. The damage to the cars amounted to around 120,000 francs, the damage to the train and the track facilities cannot yet be quantified, according to the statement. The cause of the accident is unclear.
