Following the devastating storms in Valais last weekend, the emergency services suspended the active search for a missing man in the municipality of Binn. The search for him remained unsuccessful until Thursday.
The 52-year-old was called out late on Saturday evening due to a fault report at a power plant in the Heiligkreuz region of Binn, as reported by the Valais cantonal police on Thursday. After rectifying the fault, he left the building.
According to the police, it can be assumed that he was subsequently swept away by the masses of debris. Since then, there has been no trace of the man or the vehicle.
The cantonal police, the Cantonal Valais Rescue Organization (KWRO) and other rescue teams subsequently deployed numerous resources on land and from the air in the affected area to search for the missing man. After the damaged area was flown over again and the cantonal police dog squadron searched unsuccessfully for the missing person on the debris cone, the masses of rubble in the affected area are now being removed.
If new clues about the man's whereabouts emerge in the course of this, the active search will be resumed, the police added.
