Up to CHF 220,000 is said to have disappeared from the coffers of the Samaritan Association of Upper Valais. Criminal proceedings have been initiated. According to media reports, the former treasurer of the association is suspected.

The Upper Valais Samaritan Association confirmed to the Keystone-SDA news agency on Friday that criminal proceedings were underway. The organization did not wish to disclose any further information. It initially remained unclear who was being investigated.

The "Walliser Bote" first reported on the alleged case of fraud. According to the report, the former treasurer of the association is suspected of having systematically enriched himself. He is presumed innocent, according to the report. Because of the hole in its coffers, the association is facing financial collapse.

The Upper Valais public prosecutor's office is keeping a low profile. When asked by Keystone-SDA, it would neither confirm nor deny that an investigation is underway.

Founded 50 years ago in Brig, the Upper Valais Samaritan Association has 34 affiliated clubs. In particular, it organizes the training and further education of course instructors and technical leaders of the affiliated Samaritan associations.
