The man wanted by the Bernese police in connection with a fatal altercation in Ittigen BE is in custody. He was stopped in Hungary last Friday.
The man is said to have been involved in an argument in a block of flats in Ittigen on November 10. A 23-year-old Colombian woman and a 23-year-old Spaniard were killed in the altercation. Another woman was seriously injured.
The police assume that the wanted man is probably directly connected to the crime. He was stopped in Hungary on November 17 as part of an international manhunt, as reported by the Bern-Mittelland regional public prosecutor's office on Friday. Extradition proceedings are pending.
According to the public prosecutor's office, the extensive investigations are still ongoing.
The fight broke out in the early morning of November 10 in a block of flats on Längfeldstrasse in Ittig. The emergency services found a seriously injured person on the sidewalk in front of the house and two more seriously injured people inside.
The three people were taken to hospital in a critical condition. The Colombian woman and the Spaniard succumbed to their injuries there.
No relation to Ittigen
The suspected perpetrator has no connection to Ittigen, the municipality wrote in a communiqué on Friday evening. The crime scene was the home of the two women, who had reportedly only recently moved to the area. The arrested man did not live in Ittigen.
The municipality also runs a center to strengthen social integration in the affected neighborhood. However, an evaluation by the cantonal police shows no above-average crime rate.
