The police have arrested the alleged perpetrator who stabbed a man to death in a bar in Zurich on August 30. He is a 51-year-old Hungarian citizen who is not resident in Switzerland.

Investigations by the Zurich cantonal police and the public prosecutor's office for serious violent crime have led to the identification of the suspected perpetrator in recent weeks, as the cantonal police announced on Monday. The wanted man was checked by a patrol of the Zurich city police on Sunday afternoon and subsequently arrested.

The public prosecutor's office has opened criminal proceedings against the accused for an intentional homicide and applied for pre-trial detention. The arrested man is accused of stabbing a man to death in a bar on Langstrasse.

The victim died at the scene. It was unclear why the crime was committed. The presumption of innocence applies until a legally binding conclusion to the proceedings.
