Over the past 36 hours, 95,000 lightning strikes have been recorded in Switzerland, more than the total number of strikes in July 2020. This is due to the powerful storms that have been passing through the country. The canton of Zurich was hit the hardest, with 13,527 strikes, followed by Bern with 11,765. The measurements are based on the LINET lightning detection system. So far this year, 236,810 lightning strikes have been recorded in Switzerland, compared to 354,484 in 2022. In Villars-sur-Glâne FR, a woman was struck by lightning and seriously injured.
