Retour au fil d'actualité
Almost every second person in Switzerland assumes that they will be able to maintain their standard of living in old age. However, there are clear differences between the sexes, language regions and age groups.
Overall, 44% of people in Switzerland believe that they will be able to maintain their accustomed standard of living after retirement, writes insurer Axa in a pension study published on Wednesday. However, just over a quarter fear financial losses in old age. However, at 29%, the proportion of those who are uncertain is also comparatively high.
There are clear differences between the language regions. For example, every second person in German-speaking Switzerland expects to be able to maintain their standard of living in old age. People in French-speaking Switzerland are much more pessimistic. Only 22 percent there believe they will live to an old age without financial sacrifices. Almost one in two people there even expect to have to make do with less money.
Women significantly more pessimistic
There are also clear differences between the sexes. Every second male respondent assumes that they will be able to maintain their standard of living, while only 22% expect to lose out. Among women, only 38% are optimistic and a third are pessimistic.
Younger people under the age of 29 were also much more optimistic. Here, only 16% believe they will have a lower standard of living in old age and more than one in two even expect to have more money at their disposal. Among 30-year-olds, on the other hand, the proportion of optimists drops to only around 40%. However, people approaching retirement tend to be somewhat more optimistic again.
Around 1,000 people between the ages of 18 and 65 in German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland were surveyed for the study. The survey took place between August 6 and 14.
