The drama "Anatomy of a Case" was awarded Best Film 2023 by the European Film Academy in Berlin on Saturday evening. The work by French director Justine Triet tells the story of a successful writer suspected of murder.
Triet also won the award for Best Director 2023 for the same film, while German actress Sandra Hüller also won the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for "Anatomy of a Case". The Dane Mads Mikkelsen won Best Leading Actor for his role in the film "Promised Land".
With four nominations, Switzerland was also represented with various co-productions in different award categories. However, it came away empty-handed at the 36th European Film Awards.
In 2024, the 37th European Film Awards will be presented for the first time in Switzerland at the KKL in Lucerne. The partners of the European Film Academy will then be the Federal Office of Culture, the City and Canton of Lucerne and, as media partner, the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG). Switzerland wants to present itself as a destination for film production and a partner for co-productions.
The European Film Awards have been presented by the European Film Academy, based in Berlin, since 1988. The event takes place there every two years, as was the case on Saturday evening. In other years, it is the turn of other cities throughout Europe.
