Sunday saw temperatures soar further, making Geneva the warmest day of April at 28.3 degrees. Zermatt in Valais - at an altitude of 1600 meters - also set a new monthly record with 22.3 degrees.

In general, higher altitudes felt unusually mild. In Davos, Graubünden, the thermometer at 1560 meters climbed to 20.4 degrees and in Scuol in the Engadine at 1290 meters even to 24.9 degrees, as reported by the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology (MeteoSwiss) on Sunday evening.

Chur with 27.3 degrees and Biasca in Ticino with 27.1 degrees had already experienced temperatures above 27 degrees on Saturday. Visp in Valais and Delsberg in the Jura recorded 26.1 degrees. Basel, which is usually one of the frontrunners, recorded 25.9 degrees.

However, a nasty surprise is already lurking: the temperature rollercoaster will repeat itself next week with a drop of 15 to 20 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday.
