Following the storms in Valais, the Swiss Armed Forces will be involved in the clean-up and reconstruction work until the middle of next week. The deployment will last until July 10 and can be extended if necessary.

Lieutenant-Colonel Jean-Claude Gagliardi, Head of Operations for the Armed Forces, said this at a media conference in Sierre on Tuesday. "The army helps out where it is needed," added Gagliardi.

The army is always deployed at the request of a canton. The canton of Valais requested the help of the army on Sunday. The aim is to return to normality as quickly as possible. The army is deployed in Sierre, in the Saas Valley and in Goms, among other places.
