Army Extends Disaster Relief for Forest Fire in Valais

The Swiss Army has accepted the canton of Wallis' request to extend their assistance in the forest fire at Bitsch VS. The Army will continue to monitor the remaining embers until August 8th. There are over a hundred known embers in the area that could reignite at any time depending on the weather. The original assistance was approved until July 28th. The Army is using a Super Puma helicopter with an infrared camera, as well as two special vehicles with thermal imaging cameras to monitor the embers. The monitoring is mainly done at night. In summary, the Swiss Army has accepted the canton of Wallis' request to extend their assistance in the forest fire at Bitsch VS until August 8th.
