The Swiss Open-Air Museum Ballenberg is showing the exhibition "On the move around the world" in this year's season. It shows both the mobility of the people who lived in the houses on display in the museum and current global migration.
The Ballenberg Museum in Hofstetten near Brienz BE opens its season on April 11. For the 2024 annual theme "On the move around the world", it has created a themed trail that leads past seven houses and tells stories of "departure and arrival", as the museum announced on Thursday.
The exhibition shows the stories of the people who lived in the historic buildings in Ballenberg, the museum announced. Research into these people has revealed that many of them led a life with many moves. They would have practiced professions that required seasonal mobility, they would have emigrated and emigrated or never settled permanently.
Helvetas is also involved in the themed trail. In addition to the historical Ballenberg stories, the development organization is showing current migration stories of people on other continents, according to the press release.
In around two years' time, the Ballenberg will be home to an almost 200-year-old schoolhouse from Unterheid BE. The relocation of the building will begin this month and will take over two years, the museum announced.
The Ballenberg Open-Air Museum is open this season until October 27. It displays over a hundred historic houses, provides information about traditional crafts and keeps farm animals.
