Basel-Mulhouse Airport reports positive summer vacation results

At the end of the summer, EuroAirport recorded around 96 percent of its 2019 traffic. Due to the tri-national catchment area, the summer vacation period for the airport was extended by several weeks, the airport managers announced on Tuesday.
This means that the summer vacation period will last a total of 10 weeks, the communiqué continues. Despite long delays, operations were "running well and in an orderly fashion".
The increased volume of passengers in the summer is generally a major challenge. This summer there were also major delays due to reduced air traffic control capacities in Europe and bad weather.
Fixed time slots for take-offs and landings
In order to mitigate the effects of traffic peaks, "slot coordination" has been introduced at the airport this year, according to those responsible. Specifically, fixed time slots have been set up for take-offs and landings. This enables smoother operations both on peak days and non-peak days and has proven its worth in summer operations.
In April 2024, Basel-Mulhouse Airport also became the first airport in France to be certified for the ECRA (European Connected Regional Airports) process, as was reported on Tuesday.
The procedure makes it possible to exchange data and the current status of flight movements with the European air traffic control authority Eurocontrol in real time, which has significantly optimized the flow of aircraft traffic.
