Béatrice Pilloud is to become the new Attorney General of the Canton of Valais. She succeeds Nicolas Dubuis, who will step down at the end of 2023 - two years earlier than planned. Dubuis had justified his departure by citing, among other things, the amount of administrative tasks in his role.
Pilloud is the first woman to hold this office. The Grand Council elected the 48-year-old FDP candidate on Wednesday with 82 votes. Her rival, Olivier Elsig (center), the first public prosecutor of the Central Valais regional office, received 46 votes. The absolute majority was 65 votes.
Catherine Seppey (center), currently a public prosecutor in the Central Valais regional office, was elected Deputy Attorney General in a silent election. The 51-year-old replaces Lucie Wellig (Left-Green), who, like Dubuis, also announced her resignation at the beginning of the year. She was elected with 82 votes.
