Biosuisse calls for the Council of States to support the counter-proposal

The Association of Swiss Organic Farming Organizations (Biosuisse) has called on the Council of States to support the counter-proposal to the biodiversity initiative. Biodiversity is a central and indispensable element of organic farming, the association emphasized on Thursday.
The counter-proposal is in the interests of agriculture, provides more funding, supports the cantons in their efforts and makes residential areas more accountable, Biosuisse continued.
In the winter session, the Council of States will once again deal with the counter-proposal to the biodiversity initiative. Its responsible committee once again judged the current law to be sufficient by a narrow margin and refused to accept it. Following an initial rejection by the Council of States, the National Council adopted a slimmed-down counter-proposal in September. This does not contain any new demands on agriculture.
