The Catholic Diocese of Lugano has promised a better handling of abuse cases in the wake of a report released by the University of Zurich on Tuesday. The report documented 1002 cases of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church in Switzerland since the mid-20th century. According to the researchers, this is only the tip of the iceberg, as most cases were not reported and documents were destroyed. In response to the report, the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Lugano, Alain de Raemy, acknowledged the Church's responsibility and promised a "definitive change". He announced the creation of an independent reporting centre for sexual abuse as a concrete improvement. He also expressed a need for justice for the victims.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
