BLS transports more passengers than ever before

The Lötschberg Railway (BLS) carried more passengers in 2023 than ever before. 70.2 million passengers traveled on BLS trains, buses and boats, as the transport company announced on Friday. This is eleven percent more than in the previous year.

This means that BLS transported more passengers than in 2019 before the Covid pandemic. Car transport on the Lötschberg between Kandersteg and Goppenstein also increased, with 1.36 million vehicles transported through the tunnel, according to the annual report. This represents an increase of 3.9 percent compared to the previous year.

Passenger rail transport in Switzerland basically had a record year in 2023. "Demand reached the highest level ever measured."

Thanks to the well utilized trains, buses and ships, BLS achieved a consolidated profit of 20.2 million francs, according to the press release. This corresponds to an increase of 32.4 million francs compared to the previous year.
