The Ticino hospital group Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale suspended its board member Eolo Alberti on Thursday. The Lega politician and mayor of Bioggio must stand trial for alleged financial crimes.

As the EOC hospital group announced on Friday, its Board of Directors unanimously decided the previous day to suspend Alberti from his position as a member of the Board of Directors. At the same time, it informed the State Council of this step.

The Board of Directors describes the situation as unpleasant, delicate and unusual. And it emphasizes that the criminal proceedings against Alberti have nothing to do with his previous activities as a member of the EOC Board of Directors.

Eolo Alberti was arrested a week ago. He is accused of financial crimes in connection with an activity for a private company.
