In the Bernese municipality of Bremgarten, the Yes and No votes on the pension initiative were mistakenly mixed up on Sunday. Bremgarten was supposedly the only municipality in Switzerland to accept the popular initiative "For a secure and sustainable pension scheme".
It was a human error, said Andreas Schwab, president of the municipal council, on Monday when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency. "We are a red-green municipality." It was therefore unacceptable that Bremgarten had agreed to the Young Liberals' initiative.
The mix-up had already been reported to the Swiss Confederation for correction on Sunday. The online portal Bluewin.ch first reported the mix-up of the voices.
As can be seen from the provisional results on the canton of Bern's website, Bremgarten voted in favor of the pension initiative with a supposed 70.1% of votes in favour. In reality, Bremgarten had also rejected the initiative - with 1563 no votes to 668 yes votes.
The result in Bremgarten on the popular initiative for a 13th AHV pension was correct. This was accepted with 55.5% of votes in favor.
