Both the defendant Brian Keller and the responsible Zurich public prosecutor's office are appealing the verdict of the Dielsdorf ZH district court to the Zurich High Court. On November 8, the district court sentenced Keller to 2.5 years' imprisonment. At the same time, it ruled that the 28-year-old should be released from prison.

Both Keller and the public prosecutor's office have filed an appeal, as the Dielsdorf District Court wrote in a statement on Wednesday evening.

The responsible public prosecutor announced this step immediately after the opening of the oral verdict. The public prosecutor's office had requested a much higher sentence. The parties will make the final decision on an appeal to the High Court once the written reasons for the verdict are available.

The district court found Keller guilty of various assaults on prison staff, including assault. At the same time, the court ruled that Keller should be released from prison because it was no longer appropriate to continue his security detention. Keller has been at large since November 10.

Keller had been in custody since 2016. He became known to the general public after a Swiss television documentary in 2013, at that time still under the name "Carlos".
