The positive signals have been exceeded: The canton of Graubünden closed the 2023 financial year with a surplus of CHF 162.4 million. A surplus of up to 100 million had been expected. Nevertheless, the result is significantly below that of the previous year.
Graubünden 2023 presented CHF 43.2 million less than in the previous year. Nevertheless, the positive result strengthens the canton's financial position. In 2023, freely available equity increased by CHF 122.7 million to CHF 858 million, as the canton wrote on Thursday.
In 2022, Graubünden benefited from a profit distribution of CHF 92.4 million from the Swiss National Bank. This money was missing in 2023. However, the shortfall was offset by high other income and budget underruns.
Despite budgeting, the authorities did not spend CHF 182 million. The canton made the biggest savings in contributions to local authorities and third parties (61 million). Income, on the other hand, increased in areas such as tax revenue.
