Canton Valais warns of rising river levels on Saturday

According to the cantonal authorities of Valais, landslides, flooding and debris flows could occur again in the canton on Saturday. It raised the danger level on Saturday morning from pre-warning to warning.

The forecasts indicated that the amount of precipitation this weekend would not be as high as last weekend. This was stated in a statement from the Valais State Chancellery on Saturday morning. Nevertheless, high precipitation totals are possible due to local thunderstorms.

The cantonal management body recommends that the population stay away from watercourses, restrict travel and do not park on bridges or on the banks of watercourses.

The increase in the warning level is aimed at the management staff of the municipalities. The warning level applies to the Rhone and its tributaries. The canton of Valais also warned the population on Saturday via the federal Alertswiss warning application.
