Cantons Must Apply Amended Civil Procedure Rules from 2025

The Swiss Federal Council has decided to implement the revisions to the Civil Procedure Code (ZPO) on 1 January 2025, giving the cantons and other stakeholders sufficient time to prepare for the changes. The revisions, which are the first comprehensive revisions to the ZPO since 2011, aim to make access to the courts easier for those seeking legal recourse by changing the way in which court costs are paid. The revisions also strengthen the mediation process and allow witnesses to be heard via video link in civil proceedings.
