“C’è ancora domani” attracts audiences to Swiss cinemas

More successful in Italy than "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer", Paola Cortellesi's "C'è ancora domani" is also developing into a minor cinematic miracle in Switzerland and Germany.
So far, just over 59,000 people have seen "C'è ancora domani" in Swiss cinemas, according to statistics from Procinema, the umbrella organization for Swiss cinema and film distribution companies. The film has been showing in French-speaking Switzerland since mid-March and in German-speaking Switzerland since the beginning of April.
In Germany, the film has so far attracted around 125,000 moviegoers, as Tobis Film told the German Press Agency.
The film deals with domestic violence, discrimination against women and the legacy of fascism. Nevertheless, it leaves many moviegoers with a feeling of hope.
More successful than the cinema hits of 2023
Shot in black and white, the two-hour drama was more successful in Italy in 2023 than the global cinema hits "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer", which were released in the same year. The film obviously struck a chord in the here and now, even though it is ostensibly set 78 years ago in terms of the story.
According to Tobis, more than 5.3 million people flocked to the cinemas in Italy to see actress Cortellesi's directorial debut. The tragicomedy alternates between laconic wit and heartbreak. "Cortellesi tells the story of what it means to be a woman and mother of three in Rome in 1946." Content: Delia is abused by her husband - only when a mysterious letter arrives does she believe in a better future.
With 19 nominations, the work has set a record at the Italian film awards, the 69th David di Donatello Awards, which are presented on the same evening as the German Film Awards (May 3).
