The delegates of the SP and the Center Party will be discussing health insurance premiums on Saturday. Both parties have launched the "Premium Relief Initiative" and the "Cost Brake Initiative" respectively, which will be put to the ballot box on June 9.

The SP party conference in Le Grand-Saconnex GE will also focus on the issue of poverty. For its part, the Center Party will confirm Gerhard Pfister as party president for a further four years at its delegates' meeting in Schwyz.

Pfister and the entire chairmanship have been invited to stand for a further term of office. The 61-year-old from Zug is not only the longest-serving National Councillor, but also the longest-serving party president. He took over the presidency of the former CVP in 2016 and gave it a fresher image by renaming it Die Mitte.

Pfister's counterparts in the other major parties have all been in office for less time. Jürg Grossen took over the leadership of the GLP in 2017. Marco Chiesa (SVP), the co-presidency of the SP with Mattea Meyer and Cédric Wermuth and Balthasar Glättli (Greens) have been in office since 2020. Thierry Burkart (FDP) has been party president since 2021.

At the Mythen Forum in Schwyz, the Mitte delegates will also decide on two voting slogans for June 9. These include their own "cost brake initiative", with which the center wants to limit the rise in health insurance premiums. The party will also adopt the slogan for the SP's "Premium Relief Initiative".

Spending limit for premiums

This initiative is also one of the main topics at the SP party conference in Le Grand-Saconnex in the canton of Geneva, where over 500 delegates are meeting. The proposal demands that no household should have to spend more than 10 percent of its income on health insurance premiums. The Social Democrats also adopt their voting slogan on the centrist "cost brake initiative".

The party council also proposes that delegates support the Greens' solar initiative. The SP is also discussing its position on the proposal for uniform financing of healthcare services (EFAS).

The Social Democrats' party conference will focus on the issue of poverty. The SP wants to "end poverty in Switzerland by 2030". To this end, the party intends to adopt a new position paper on Saturday.

The SP will also bid farewell to former Federal Councillor Alain Berset at the party conference. The man from Fribourg represented the Social Democrats in the national government from 2012 to 2023.
