The Center Group is unlikely to vote unanimously on the counter-financing of the additional billions for the army. One part of the parliamentary group wants to agree to a temporary army fund. The other part wants the additional expenditure to be compensated for in various areas.

This is what parliamentary group spokesman Martin Candinas (GR) said on Wednesday afternoon during the debate on the 2024 Armed Forces Dispatch in the National Council. The absolute priority is to increase the expenditure ceiling by four billion francs. "Our country needs more funds for the security of the population."

After that, it was a matter of "separating the feasible from the desirable", said Candinas. He still prefers an army fund to counter-finance the additional expenditure.

However, part of his parliamentary group wants to compensate for the additional tasks in various areas - in order to prevent an "unholy alliance" between the SVP and SP, which jointly caused the payment framework to collapse in the Security Policy Committee (SIK-N).

Candinas hopes to find a compromise solution in the coming weeks and months that will be capable of gaining a majority in parliament in December. He is counting on a "constructive dialog" on the civic side, he said.
