On Saturday morning, the federal government warned of a considerable risk of precipitation and thunderstorms in parts of Switzerland. According to the federal government's natural hazards portal, there may be heavy rainfall in western Valais, the neighboring Vaud region, southern Ticino and parts of Graubünden.
There is a warning of a level 3 hazard, which according to the natural hazard portal means that local flooding is possible. Landslides may also occur on steep slopes. In Ticino, the Misox and other parts of Graubünden such as the Upper Engadine, experts are expecting up to 130 liters of rain per square meter, with less precipitation in Valais and Vaud.
The Federal Office of Meteorology advises people to avoid riverbank areas. Cellars and basements should not be entered if there is a risk of flooding. Depending on the area, the danger applies from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning.
According to the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology MeteoSwiss, there is a considerable risk of thunderstorms from Saturday afternoon in an area from the Bernese Aare valley in the west along the foothills of the Alps to Lake Constance in the northeast.
