Another extraordinary session on the asylum dossier requested by the SVP lasted only a few minutes in the Council of States on Wednesday. The small chamber sent two motions by SVP President Marco Chiesa (TI) back to the responsible committee for preliminary examination.

Chiesa's first motion calls for systematic identity checks at the Swiss border in order to turn back people without a valid residence permit or other authorization to enter the country. In a second motion, Chiesa calls on the Federal Council to take measures to ensure that people from Council of Europe countries can no longer be granted asylum in Switzerland.

The Council of States would like to have these issues examined in depth by the relevant committee. Chiesa also agreed to this. The motions for referral were both tacitly approved.
