Councillors want to increase the reliability of the Geneva-Lausanne railroad line

Operations on the Geneva - Lausanne railroad line should run more reliably. Parliament is calling on the Federal Council to take measures to increase the redundancy and capacity of the railroad line on the shores of Lake Geneva.
On Monday, the National Council passed a motion by former Vaud FDP Councillor of States Olivier Français by 153 votes to 31 with three abstentions. In the eyes of the majority of his Committee for Transport and Telecommunications (KFV-N), a functioning Geneva - Lausanne rail axis is important for the nationwide rail network.
In the written justification for the motion, Français argued, among other things, that neither a bus replacement nor detour are currently possible in the event of line interruptions between Geneva and Lausanne. This is despite the fact that the railroad line is one of the busiest in Switzerland.
The Federal Council rejected the proposal and referred to the bill on changes to the 2025 and 2025 rail expansion stages, which Parliament has finished discussing in the current session. The councillors increased the CHF 2.6 billion requested by a further CHF 350 million, partly in favor of French-speaking Switzerland.
This includes a first expansion stage between Lausanne and Geneva. A nine-kilometre rail tunnel is to be built between Morges VD and Perroy VD. It is to be completed by 2035 or 2040 at the latest, but the KVF-N is not satisfied with this. Further efforts are needed for this strategically important line.
